Paul's advice here is extremely practical. For the most part, these directions involve what Timothy needs to accomplish in his own life and teachings. Timothy is to point out these truths to others and discipline himself for godliness. He is especially commanded to set an example for the believers, persist in sound teaching, and fulfill his unique spiritual calling. Paul also instructs Timothy to be totally focused on this work in order to help both himself and the people to whom he is ministering.
